Hi, I am trying to troubleshoot a connection issue that a user is having trying to connect to our PBX with the Avaya Site Administration program.

The PBX is an Avaya S8700.

The user is reporting that the following message is shown when he tries to connect: Communication Error: Network Connection failed.

The user can ping the IP addresses of the servers just fine, but cannot telnet to it.

I am told that there may be an access restriction by IP, but I'm not sure how to find this out.

Might anyone be able to point me in the right direction as to what commands I should be looking at?

Thanks.

Is anyone able to telnet to the S8700? Can you telnet to the S8700 through the command prompt on the same PC you're pinging it from?

linux commands to get IP addresses for the servers and the allowed and denied subnet access

cat /etc/hosts
cat /etc/hosts.allow
cat /etc/hosts.deny

rockspop, I am able to telnet to the server, but the user I'm working with cannot. He is working from another location and can only ping it so far.

AvayaTier3, how would I go about accessing the server to run those commands? Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with linux.

Thanks.

below is using "dadmin" login. If you don't have dadmin, use your login.

ssh dadmin@ipaddress
or telnet ipaddress

If you login allows shell access you will get to a linux server prompt
