I recently adopted the use of access codes for long distance dialing. eg: user dials 555-555-5555 long fdistance number then there is a short wait and a tone and the user enters an access code eg: 4001 etc.

I want to use call forwarding but cant figure out how to enter this code into the dialing string. I tried using (y) as the help screen instructed 555-555-5555y4001 amd then tried (,) as in 555-555-5555,4001 both just sent it to voice mail. anyone have an idea how to enter the string.

HELP! thanks everyone.

Use the Telephone number of 5555555555Y,,,4001

I tried your suggestion but it keeps giving me the tone for enter access code. I felt sure your suggesstion would work.
Apparnetly it dial the Londgdistance number and but for some reason the code(4001) is not being recognized.

FRUSTRATED but thank you

tried both and still no go. I called my provider Paetec and asked if they could turn the access code off for the next week.

Thank you very much
Merry Christmas

1 last go..

5555555,,,Y4001

But can I pick you up on something:
"as in 555-555-5555,4001 both just sent it to voice mail."

Do you mean voicemail on the IPO?
Are you putting this number in user call forward but have it as a short code also?

What is your short code? Does it conflict with another SC?

Try creating a new S/C, *8888 Dial 55555555Y4001
Forward the user to *8888

Ok, this may be something very tiny and stupid because you already thought about it but its always good to go back and check the little things.

You said the user forwards his phone, "user dials 555-555-5555 long fdistance number then there is a short wait and a tone and the user enters an access code eg: 4001 etc." And all your other examples of what you've tried are just 5555555555 plus the access code.

Are they just typing in 555-555-5555, or are they adding the 9 or whatever number you use as a prefix? THey need to enter the number the same way as if they were normally dialing it.

starting at the beginning!

Long distance short code is:

55N
Dial 55NY4001

Can you ring any 55N number and see if it connects and enters access code 4001 automatically

Now a user setting a forward unconditional to 55XXXXXXXXXX will use this short code.

We'll get there yet....

your last post threw me. I'm not sure what you are telling me. 55N etc. sorry to be so annoying but this one has me frustrated. I called Paetec and they are turning off the code feature for the next week. So it solves this problem for this week but I have to find out the real solution for the future. People do want their phones forwarded maybe I'l write to my Avaya vendor CTI Consolidated Technologies.

Thank you for all your posts
I truly appreciate your help.
