I have a Norstar MICS here and also run an Asterisk box in front of it. I won't explain why...it would take too long but let's just say, we use it for SIP. In any event...here's my problem.

As with most systems such as ours, to gain access to an outside line, you have to dial a 9 (or whatever). We do this for outside linepool access to our T1. However, when we need to dial into the Asterisk box to get our voicemail...we need to dial an 8. The problem is...the Norstar expects 7 to 10 digits to be entered after the '8' but we only have to dial 3 more. Is there a way to tell the Norstar to only expect 3 digits after the 8 has been dialed?

is this programmable somewhere? I've looked and looked but didn't see anything.

TIA

Just to add when you build a filter let’s say filter 5 like stated before. When you restrict a number the number that is restricted is the number after any access code. So in your case if you restrict the number 8 then you can still dial 8 for the other side. It will just not let you dial 88. Example lets say I want to block 1+ dialing and my access code is 9. Then what I would do is build a filter to deny 1 then assign that filter to my phone. This way I can dial 9 plus any number except 1. Hope this helps somewhat.

yes, we dial a 9 for the outside line access but we need to dial 8 to get to our Asterisk PBX as well. So I'd like to block 9 on that one particular set.

Thanks again...I'll try your suggestion.

Does 9 use different lines than 8? If so the easiest way is just don't allow that phone to have access to that line pool.

hawks...

I tried that and it killed the 8 as well. I guess it's because I have to use Routes to access the Asterisk box and somehow they're connected.

Although....8 isn't pointing to any lines as far as I know.

Tell me how you dial to get,
1) The outside world (9xxx ??)
2) To the extensions at the other side (98xxx ??)

9 gives users access to the outside world.

8 allows us to go directly into our Astersik PBX. For example...becuase we route everything thru the Asterisk, we would dial 8530 for DN 530 to reach someone internally.

So there are 2 T1 (PRI) Circuits? If that is the case then they should be in seperate line pools. Correct me if I'm wrong but 8 & 9 are set up as Desti Codes. If so each one should be pointing to a Route and each Route should have a Line Pool to use.
