Hi
Heres a real problem -I am using Windows Xp Home operating system. I have installed Office 2000 with Word, Excel and Publisher. I need also to use Powerpoint and Access programs. So I subsequently then installed an older Office 97 Professional edition which has Powerpoint and Access programs on it. Powerpoint installed perfectly, but not so with Access. What i get is:

Error: Can't find the database you specified, or you didn't specify a database at all.
Specify a valid database name in the command line, and include a path if necessary

O.K

I've gone to an original database that I created and it wouldn't let me in saying that I need to convert it to in alater edition . How can I if I can't get into the program to convert it. I'm really stuck i've done everything, unistalled both offices and the same error message still comes up. Help me. Ta.

What version was the original database you were trying to access (forgive the pun)? And how are you trying to access it?

I work with some users who have both versions of Office installed on their machines and there are issues when trying to use either version of Access in such a situation. If they are trying to click on an icon, they must first set the command line in the shortcut to the version of Access they wish to use. The other thing I have seen done is that they must first open the Access version that they want and then open the file they need to use.

Not sure if this will help, but thought I would put it out there. Also, I should note that these are on Windows 2000 systems. Am unfamiliar with WinXP, so cannot offer any immediate advice in that regard. Sorry. :-(

This is a known problem with Office 97. You need to identify a font called hatten.ttf then temporarily rename it to, say, hatten.xxx. Remove the Access software by using Add/Remove programs then re-install the Access software. Rename the font back to hatten.ttf.
This fix definitely works - I have used it myself.

The full explanation can be found at the following site

Thanks a million guys. Both your threads are just what I need. I'll try them out and see how it goes . I'll get back to you shortly and give you some points. Cheers.
Nick.

Hi guys
I tried what Davezsmith suggestion ,reading through the microsoft information base but I couldn't rename hatten.ttf. It wouldn't let me do it saying it was not posible to do so. I was able to change Msaccess.exe to msaccess.old but it didn't change the situation and I had a repeat of the original message again.
What I will try to do is unistall both office programs and then install office 97 with access and then office 2000 on top of that and see what happens . Any other suggestions.
For instance how can I get the computer rename the hatten.ttf file? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks for your help.

Hi again. What exactly is the error message you are getting when you try to change hatten.ttf. If the error message says:
"If you change a filename, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?"

Answer yes and this will allow the rename.
