Access 97 vs Access 2000 2

I have been given a project with will require creating a database with a few related tables (to allow "picklists" or "droplists&quot and a few forms and reports. Nothing that is very elaborate.

I do intend to create a Switchboard.

Should I encounter any issues with accessing the 2000 database in Access 97? "A good man knows his limitations." -- "Dirty Harry" Callahan (Clint Eastwood)

No can do. You can get to data in earlier versions, but not in later versions.

If your users have a mix of Access 97 and 2K then one solution would be to develop the app in 97 initially.

Once complete and working, split it into front and back ends. Leave the data (back end) as 97.

Convert the 97 front end into 2K. Put the appropriate front end on each user's system based on the version they are using.

The 2K front end can access/store info into the 97 tables.

The draw back is that you will have two different front ends to maintain.

Given the choice between 97 and 2000, I would _strongly_ recommend going with 97. If you can bump to 2002 that's fine. But I really don't recommend using 2000.

I agree with Jeremy. I have to work with both 97 and 2K; much prefer 97.

Usually, I will do my development in 97 and then convert if I need a 2K app.
