Access 97 Purchasing?

I have a copy of Access 2000 at home, but found that using it to build a database for work (where Access 97 is the only Access available- long story) was a bit awkward. I even had a situation where I could only use A97 for a certain task.

So I'm looking to purchase an inexpensive, LEGAL (no warez or copies, thanks) version of Access 97. I've looked on eBay and half.com, but they're overpriced at worst ($200????), and shady at best.

Does anyone have a good idea where to get a copy of A97? I'm in the Philadelphia area, if that's any help. Online or offline will be considered.

I don't know where you can get a copy of A97, but I have a suggestion that may help.

A2K has an option to convert a database to a prior version of Access. If it's feasible, you could create your database at home in A2K, then convert it to 97 format and take it to work, where (barring some VB conversion problems) it should work fine.

The database conversion function is in the menus under Tools -> Database Utilities.

I tried your suggestion, and while it SHOULD work, I had a situation that didn't work, so I'm looking to purchase A97. Thanks, though.

Hmmm...still a bit expensive, though I thank you very much.

I guess I'll have to keep looking. Thanks!

Many MS Licenses allow "downgrade rights", ie you are allowed to run Access 97 if you have a license for Access 2000. I would check the EULA to see if this is possible, then all you would need is a copy of Access 97.

Any idea if this works if I purchased Access 2000 myself? Does the "boxed" EULA give you rights to A97? If so, any idea how I can get it?

That would really be cool. :)

Before going the "downgrade rights" route search the MIcrosoft knowledge base for info on getting legacy versions. I have a similar - unsolved - problem and don't believe that there is any solution. It's a real problem, particularly in the third world where I live. Please post if you do find a solution.
