Access 97
I have Access 97 on Windows 2000. I got the error below only when it on Novell network group.

There isn't enough free memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again.

When I copied on to my local database I am not getting this error.I have several db's but only this one gives error. I tried Microsoft help they gave help using the form in the design mode. But it didn't help me. I am using a dll to get the username.

Can Some one Help me. If you need more details please let me know.

Thanks In Advance.

I have a very similar problem, with one minor difference. The user I am trying to help is running both access 97 & 2000 (Installed into separate directories with Office 2000 installed first) Access works for about two hours, and then suddenly this message also pops up. Also, once access 97 is closed and re-opened, the program says that there is not enough system resources to complete the operation. Access 97 is the only app running, apart from the various system services, and the system tray stuff.

The machine is NT4 SP6a with all hotfixes and updates required to date. I have tried resetting the page file to a variety of sizes and decreasing/increasing registry quotas. Only thing left is ram upgrade, but I seriously doubt that will do anything at all.

Any help of any sort is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1) The above message is the Bug in the Access 2000. It was fixed in the service pack 1(sr-1/sr-1a). I am not sure whether service pack 2(sr-2) of Access 97 can help in any way.

Adding latest Service Pack for the Office or Access usually fixes the bug.I have downloaded the SR2 for(Access 97 for my bug)but need to install and see.

2)I read in the Microsoft web site that Microsoft Access requires a minimum of 12 MB to run in Windows 95 and 16 MB to run on Windows NT Workstation, but additional RAM improves performance.
You also might get better performance by specifying that the disk space available for virtual memory be at least 25 MB minus available RAM. For example, if your computer has 12 MB of RAM, you should specify at least 13 MB of virtual memory. You may want to specify more if you are running several large applications.

Thanks for the reply. Here's what is done so far.
Office 2000 is installed as part of the build using Norton Ghost. Access 97 was installed afterwards using the install from the office 97 SR2 setup, and letting it install only the files required for access, and also into a different directory. (So far tried C:\access97; C:\microsoft office\access97 (and with a space for access 97) and now it currently resides in the default directory (which I have learnt from past experience is a rather bad idea) In each of these installs, the program seems to loose control of itself and pop-up the error (I have also tried the Access 97 only installation disk - so may need to try that with the update!!)

The PC has 192Mb and the default pagefile for the system is 512 (minimum and maximum) and I know that this can also be a performance factor. Increasing the pagefile is not likely to have any effect as it is already far to big and the task manager indicators (Performance tab) show that it is not peaking anywhere near there. I have reduced the file to 250 (as this should be sufficient) and do not want to go any lower on this particular system. Have also decreased the registry quota by 20Mb as this was too big as well, and can be increased if needed.

All this and the error is still there. In the morning I shall be removing both office versions, and re-install putting Access 97 (into a different directory) on first, and giving that a test run, then installing 2000. Then give them a side-by-side test run. Will let you know what happens.

Thanks again for the response, and very useful info on the service pack thing...I'm disappointed I never knew about it already :)

Cheers again
