I'm having problems with two PC's not being able to perform certain routines in MS Access.

OS is Windows XP PRO
Access 97

The error on one PC happens when exporting Access tables, and states that "ActiveX can't create object".

The other PC in question doesn't have file type Excel as an option for Importing files.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

It kinda sounds like an issue with the options used at install time. If I'm not mistaken, when you initially do an install, certain features (or add-in's / wizards) are installed by default. Some others you need to explicity specify. Try running the install for Access again and see if you can select additional components. I have found it necessary in the past to go back and add items, but now I just select EVERYTHING. I know there are optional components that deal with certain format (i.e. dBase, Excel, etc.)

I have Access 97, 2000 and XP all running on my Win-XP box without a problem. If above doesn't work -- and you are running code -- maybe you're missing a required reference?

35+ years of 'progress' -- can't we all just go wire boards again?

Trevil & Av8tar,

Thanks very much for replying. Sorry for not contacting you sooner. I will try both fixes tomorrow and let you know.

All the very best

Success Brian - Thanks very much indeed.

Trevil - I followed your instructions yet the reinstall still does not load the Excel option. I've checked other PCs and they have this option. I shall keep plugging away!!! Thanks a lot Trevil.

Cheers lads
