Access 2003 sudden crashing problem

I started using Access 2003 recently and have experienced sudden crash several times. Once the database is crashed, it is very unlikely to get it back. The backup copy provided by the Access 2003 is also a broken one. In other words, my work is gone unless I have a backup.

Further, a database that worked perfectly crashed after I compacted the database. That problem scared me because I have the habit of compacting the database after I get my work done.

I searched this forum and found out some people have same experience.

I wonder whether there is an official explanation or solution for this.

Thanks.

Have you applied the Office 2003 ServicePack 2 ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

PHV said it all, only I'm going to add just a little:

This is an unusual problem. Make sure you are up-to-date with all patches, then try to eliminate your hardware as a problem. There are no likely suspects as this is an unusual case.

The service pack was installed when I ran into the crash problem the first time. But the problem still occured occasionally. The way that I worked around it is to keep backup frequently and to decompile the database.

In the thread I mentioned in my original post, people had the crash problem even after SP2 was installed.

One objective for my post is to find out whether it is a common problem for Access 2003. According to Pseale, this is an unusual case. That makes me feel a little better.

Thanks.
