Hi,

When changing the data in a particular record, sometimes the database loses the information from the record and replaces the data with symbols (squares & chinese symbols). This means that everybody has to log off the database in a multiuser environment and the database has to be repaired, after which the primary key of the table is usually erased and then this has to be re-established as well as linking the table back to others.

Does anyone know the possible cause of this.
The database is stored on a server running NT4 and users have microsoft windows xp professional and Office professional to access the database.

Thanks.

I would say that two people are trying to modify the same record at the same time. You must implement a record locking scheme. Go to Tools\Options\ and select the advanced tab. Under the heading Default record locking, choose the radio button for "Edited Record." Selecting this will tell Access to lock the record when it is being edited, so that no one can edit the same record simultaneously.

BGrego,
Thanks for the advice. i did it on all the client machines today & so far so good.,

Cheers,
Kilt
