Hello

I have an Acc2000 database that runs a simple query. The query was developed on a Win2K machine -- needs to work in BOTH Win2k and Win98.

Right now, there is an error: "Unrecognized database format"

What components are missing? Shall I use P&D Wizard to distribute the components w/the app?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi asg, Are you running your query fro VB or from Access? If you are contacting the database from VB and are using any of the data controls or data environment, rather than straight DAO or ADO code you get this error because these tools where invented before Access 9.0 hit the market. You can either convert your database to a previous version or don't use the the various connection tools. The operating systems you are talking about should not make a difference. Good Luck MLK

You can open an Access 2000 DB from VB if you install Jet 4.0. It is available for download at Microsoft's website. You'll also want the latest MDAC components, also available at MS.

This assumes the users are opening the DB with a VB application. If they are using Access, it must be Access 2000. Access 97 and earlier cannot read an Access 2000 DB. You'll get the unrecognized format error. If Users must use Access 97, you can convert the database as suggested by MLK. Terry L. Broadbent

Thanks all. Got it sorted. Turns out the project uses DAO 3.51 AND Access 9.0 Object Lib. So, once those components are on the final production machine -- should be good to go.

Thanks again.

asg,

Thanks for posting the resolution. So often, we are left to guess if a problem was solved and how. Terry L. Broadbent
