I have a number of databases designed with Access 2000 and all are either accessed with Access 2000 or 2003. My question is if we upgrade computer from xp to Vista, will we have a problem? Is Vista compatible to these Access versions.

Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not an expert, but I do know that if a data base is in the format of Access2003, those users will NOT be able to access the data if they are using access 2000. Access will tell you that when converting a data base from an older version of access to a newer one. Access 2003 has what is called a sandbox. The new code in Access 2003 recognizes code that was ok to use in A2000 as a possible virus, etc threat, especially the macros. Neat huh!

Also, my son, who IS a program engineering expert, stated that his company bought all the engineers new laptops with vista, NONE of their software worked with it! They had to wipe out the brand new hard drives and reinstall XP on them in order to continue to do their jobs!

Suggestion.... have you tried to eliminate the password login criteria to see if you can access the data? If you can, then there is a problem with the login function.

Also, are your computers equipped with 2gb of memory. Dell's website states that this is a minimum requirement in order for Vista to function without hangups.

So, my question, is a little different. I want to be sure that there aren't other quirks that are directly tied to the new operation system with access 2000.

I have frequently used Access 2000 databases with Access 2003. I have frequently used Access 2000 databases with Access 2007 running on a Vista laptop.

[tt]You can use an Access 2000 database or Access 2000 project (Microsoft Access project: An Access file that connects to a Microsoft SQL Server database and is used to create client/server applications. A project file doesn't contain any data or data-definition-based objects such as tables and views.) in Access 2002 or later by simply opening the file — no further action is necessary. You can make design changes that take advantage of features new in Access 2002 or later. When you open the file in Access 2000, any functionality specific to Access 2002 or later is simply ignored. You can make design changes in Access 2000. When you open the file in Access 2002 or later, the design changes that take advantage of feature specific to Access 2002 or later remain intact in most cases.[/tt]

[tt]In Access 2002 or later, you can also open a database created in Access 97 or earlier by enabling it.[/tt]

A useful way of working is to certify your projects:

A very quick search revealed this article , which discusses Sandbox issues.
