Accepting new job with undersirable salary

Today, I just accepted a new job as a software trainer. I have 30 years business experience in communications, education, and sales.

I have no experience as a software trainer but have taught as a business teacher, written training scripts, and have managed a medical outpatient cardiology clinic.

I accepted a base salary of 38K. I regret doing that since I believe fervently that is too low a salary for my experience.

Can I call the company tomorrow and ask for a higher salary or should I wait a few months and ask for a raise.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
 
Personally, if someone told me before the interview they wanted 42-46K and then asked for 50K in the salary negotiations, I would withdraw my offer.

You are really going about this the wrong way. You have created the expectation of 42-46k as a starting salary... I agree entierly with SQLSister.
You really need to decide what you want before you start going after it. I mean that in every regard... what do you want out of the job? Why are you pursing "training" roles that you have not previously done? If you want 50k are you in a field that will provide that? I'd love to make $350k a year as a professional kite flyer too, but its not going to happen just because I want it.
I think, from your thread here, you really need to spend some time determining what your goals and priorities are. You should also invest in the book "Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Compromise" by Roger Fisher. You need to get off of the positional barganing "stand" and move on to discussions around the merits. That is not going to guarantee you success in a negotiation every time, but it will certainly improve your chances.
