The Test Sentence is: HOW NOW, BROWN COW?

Candidate #1:

High Nigh Brine Kye

Candidate #2: (maybe CorBlimeyLimey - [wink] )
Aahh Naah Braahn Caah

Who would you employ?

BTW, any other ways of pronouncing that sentence would be appreciated

This actually raises an interesting point about the interview process. There is a natural tendency to prefer PLU (people like us). This is part of the reason why sexual and racial prejudice are hard to break. Interviewing panels of white middle aged men will always prefer white middle aged men.

There is a strong argument for doing away with the interview process because the subconscious prejudices mean that they are not a good selector of the most appropriate candidate. Given that we all work in technical environments I prefer to give candidates aptitude tests which should provide the levelest playing field.

The problem with aptitude tests is that they don't test things like communication and social skills.

Apparently different regional accents within the UK have very distinct connotations for people, I read somewhere.

That is why call centres tend to be in Scotland, North East England or Wales, as apparently these accents tend to sound more 'trustworthy' to the rest of us.

I don't know whether this is true or not...

Come on, it's Ray Winstone. He only does 1 accent.

That's correct; it's Bob Hoskins who does the "Sarf Landan" and "Noo Yawk Landanah" accents.

Neither as dire as Dick Van Dyke's "Gaw Blimey Mary Poppins"
