I am trying to make an ACCDE version open smoothly. I have clicked on the arrow to minimise the ribbon, however when the form opens in what was an MDE type application, I momentarily get the top row of bars showing, ie file etc, and an image of the form is there before it finally opens. It's all a momentary mess.

Is there a better way to do things, thanks

You may like the results better if you change the extension to accdr... That will force it to run as runtime. And by change the extension, I literally mean to rename the file. The other thought would be to use a custom ribon with the start from scratch option and make only a Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). Then load this on startup. I lost my example at my last contracting place... but you should be able to look into it with a search engine... The best documentation is lacking so it is a little trial by fire but effective.

A tip: I have checked the extension on startup to ensure it is accdr and kicked people out if not (you of course have to have a back door of some sort for development). This is useful as a part of a larger security initiative.

The Caveat I found with this is that Sharepoint renames the file back to accdb to pass the file to access. So if for whatever reason you want to open from SharePoint, don't use that tip.

Many Thanks, that's better than what I had before.

Still unhappy the way an ACCDE opens. I have tried making ACCDR but the databases still open up so clumsy.
When the applications open, ACCESS 2010 central panel logo shows up momentarily, then I think the ribbon (even though I had turned the turning ribbon off), then lined images of a form, and then finally my mainform. It's a total mess!! Surprised nobody else has complained about it.

Is the a total blankout splash screen I can create/use to claan it all up and make it look like I spent hours creating it.

Thanks

Sounds like you are getting killed with processing on an older computer. If you want to try and cheat it you might try something like the below.

You could make a blank form as a splash screen. Then on timer open your would be startup form...

The thing to do will be to play with docmd.echo to turn screen updates on and off. So on timer, turn off screen updates docmd.echo false, open the 'startup' form. Form that form's on open, close the splash screen.

Lastly you'll need to turn the screen updates back on with docmd.echo true but the timing may be tricky. You might have to do some sort of trick to run code once on timer to turn screen updates on.

Thanks. I will try it on another PC at the weekend, someones coming over. I just tried playing with the database, and I keep having the MS Notice that it's sorry and needs to close. No information as to why, but decompiling it each time seems to fix it. So flakey, many other things keep appearing as bugs, soon I will call MS as the software behaves the same on 2 PC'S so it must be my copy of 2010. Will get back, have a good weekend
