Hi,

We are trying to move an app from Win3.11/Acc2 to NT4.0/Acc97 and find that some code isn't working properly.

For instance, when using the following code:

Set newdb=ws.createdatabase(strpath & strDB,dbLangGeneral)

it works fine when writing to the local C drive but not when written to the network (??). I have admin permissions on the network and we have long file name support.

I have other examples, but does anyone have any pointers for this please?
Thanks,
Hutton.

Hi Hutton,
I'll direct you over to Thread181-68777 and maybe it will help you a little. :) Gord

Thanks Gord,

Would my problem be with DAO then (moving from Access2 to Access97).

I am interested as my functions work if they are using databases on the local (C) drive but fail if stored on a network drive (e.g. H).

Cheers,
Hutton

Good morning Hutton!
Now realizing you truly mean Access "2" not 2000 I will say something else:

Microsoft went from "Access Basic" to "Visual Basic for Applications". If you try to compile the new 97 it should start to trip on any code it disagrees with. You may have to spend a day or so to pick through the code and manually update anything it doesn't like. If you have the book from your 97 package "Building Applications with Microsoft Access 97" or in F1 help, there's a blurb on whats's new. Depending on the quantity of "code" you actually have, this could actually be a really simple task. Oh, and don't forget: You can do a "Find/Replace" throughout the entire database in code so if you can define a repetitive difference, you can correct the whole bunch with a few clicks. Hope to hear that you get it up and running. It's been a while since I worked with 2 but do recall the chore and the satisfaction when I finally got it going in 97. Good Luck, :) Gord

Hello Gord,

Thanks for your help :) I'm actually working on a migration from Netware to NT (I was an Access programmer years ago - kinda miss it to be honest) but I have some customers who had this problem. I remembered that there was some kind of change, so now I have your words I can now let them know and close my call (i.e. its nothing to do with my NT build as I suspected). Many thanks and have a good day,
Hutton.

Thanks Hutton and ditto on the good day. BTW of course you miss it! Its fun! ;-) Gord
