acad 2002 dimension changes when you change a layer of the item picked

On autocad 2002, when we dimension from lets say a line to line. Let say the dimenion was 6". Sometimes when we change one lines layer after we have dimensioned it the dimension & location of the dimension will change.

Has anyone elso had this problem. One of my drafter brought this to my attention. Thanks.

We've never experienced this problem.
Does it happen all the time? Just in certian drawings?

We have an autolisp command that changes the layer. It does not happen very often, but I was scared to see the dimension change. I will check with the other drafters & see. Right now it looks like one drawing does it.
