Just recently i installed Windows 2000 Pro and Windows 98 SE on my system's C: drive. Now i want to remove only win 98. Can anyone tell me how to uninstall windows 98 se from my c: drive?
the best way to do this without damaging your other operating system is to install system commander, it will manage multiple operating systems, resize partitions etc, it is a very good tool, I highly recommendit to you.
Thanks for ur replies. Well i forgot to mention that my OSs both Windows 2000 pro and Win 98 SE both exist on the same drive i.e., C:. So if i uninstall win98, it should no way affect windows 2000 pro.
And i would like to know the url of the software "System Commander" mentioned by mussussu.
The Boot.ini file is in the root of your C drive (i.e. C:\) but is a hidden system file. In Windows Explorer, select Tools, Folder options, and select to show hidden and system files.
You will need to do this before you delete the Win98 folder otherwise some files will be left behind and you won't be able to delete the Win98 folder.
Then use Notepad to edit the file to remove the entries for Win98 and save it. Be sure to enclose the filename in quotes (" so that notepad doesn't change the name to boot.ini.txt.
Then reset your Win Explorer settings to hide hidden and system files again.
It does not matter that Win2K and Win98 are on the same disk or even the same partition. They do not know of each other and are therefore just another folder on the disk. Say, Jim, while eavesdropping this conversation, I went to my root directory and did not find boot.ini (yes, I have it set to view hidden files). I have only Win98 on my machine; is the file a 2000 feature?
Boot.ini is for NT4 and 2000. It will probably be in XP since it is built with the same core but I do not know for sure.
I have to apologize. In Win Explorer, you also have to uncheck Hide Operating System files and answer Yes to the verification prompt. Then boot.ini will be visible in C:\. Be sure to re-hide the OS files when you are done.
