I have an exe that comes together in an installation with a database file. This database file is bound to the exe in ways of that it is hardcoded to use certain columns.

Right now the db is installed in the user folder and the .exe in program files.

In the future, probably a db update will come which requires a new exe as well in the installation. The problem is that this is a Citrix environment where all users share the same program files. So, when this update come all users will fight about the program files, if they have not performed this update.

One solution could be to place the exe (primary output) in the user folder. But is that OK? What do you recommend? Thanks!

Did you write the exe? The best thing to do is to make the exe do the database upgrade when it first runs. Then all you need to do is deploy a new exe to the program files dir.

Thank you for your comment. I decided to make new directories for each version instead.
