I was reading on here where you can capture cdr info via data mod and hyperterm.

I think i got everything set right,

In cdr I have set to output "custom" and my data mod ext as end point.

Im using an 8400B I know its set up correctly cause I can dial into the switch with it.

When I run hyperterm to get data it just sits there and says "ring" whenever the green light on the data mod flashes.

anyone have any ideas? I've also tried avaya's term emulator with no luck.

Click the connect button on hyperterm. This will connect it
with the data mod. You might also want to set it to capture to a file. I had this setup but right off the port on the switch, then I would go to the switch room once a week and
close the file. Just had an old laptop sitting there on the network so I could pull the files off. I was sending scheduled daily reports to my pc using a data mod and hyper term also.

what term type do I use. Im showing my cdr link is up, but nothing scrolling thru. Just sits there now (no ring) looks connected but nothing happening.

I use VT100
You mentioned you had set the output to custom, Did you go in and define the custom settings you want? If not it will output nothing. You may just want to try some of the predefined outputs.

GOT IT!

Thanks bobg1, i was trying to use secondary output, changed primary to printer, and my dm ext...

SCROLLING LIKE CRAZY NOW!

Pls open Terronova & connect it to CDR & type ats0=1

Then you will get connected to CDR & the raw data will start flushing in the Terronova screen.

Hope this information will be sufficient. Incase of any problem let me know.

Okay now that i got this scrolling, and can basically see the time the call came in, the trunk group # and the two and from digits, what the hell does the rest mean? Im looking for some way of tracking caller entered digits.

Have you got the manuals for your system?
If you look under the cdr setup info in them, you should find what it all means. If you still have it set to custom, check the custom settings to get an idea.
a normal setup would probably have date, time, duration, condition code, access dialed, access used, dialed number, calling number, trunk group used, trunk grp member used, etc.
The manual would give you an idea as to the layouts and how many spaces are stuffed into the string etc.

manuals???
Thats why i come here so i DON'T have to look in the manuals! HEHE!

Thanks again for all your help Bobg1, and Contactson

I would take way to much typing for me to list all the options......

I've been using that setup for nearly two years fairly successfuly now. What I found was that the Data Module is Hayes AT command set comapatible and could be told to anwser automaticaly after a number of rings using S register 0. Issue the command, from the AT prompt ATs0=3 and it will always answer after three rings without user intervention. If you lose power to the 8400B you have to re-issue the command.

The problem with Hyperterminal is that it ends up creating huge files unless you manualy change the capture file name and path every so often. Also if you loose power you could loose heaps of data. I sit the laptop on the PABX, directly connected to the EIA port (no Data Module) with it's power comming from the UPS of the PABX. Never loses data now, unless the O/S hangs.

One of my colleagues have written a very nice bit of code that automaticaly captures the data and creates a new file for each month. It runs under Win95/98/NT OK. We are also working on a version which will, hopefully, automaticaly FTP or Syslog the data stream to a server. This will be great for remote sites and sure beats paying some company $$$$'s for a dumb buffer-box with a modem stuck to it.
