Hey All,

I have backup exec version 7.1 (7. something anyways) for NT Server 4.0.

I accidently sent a job to Run Now that is now trying to load a tape that we no longer have. Of course, it won't abort until it gets the tape it wants.

Is there a way to kill this without restarting the server? I tried stopping the services, but of course, it won't do that either :).

Thanks in advance!

Well,

I figured it out. Since Task Manager wouldn't let me stop the Veritas' processes, I got a nifty little tool called Process Explorer. It let me close all of the processes, which killed that job.

Thanks for looking this over anyways! :)

Ok,

Now I have another problem. While I was back there, I took a look at the version, it is Version 7.3 Rev 2570 (if that helps).

Even though the last job has disappeared, since I killed the processes last time, now the job I want to run is stuck at "Pending". It is the only active job listed.

Am I just going to have to restart?

Thanks!

Hello timwkao,

I have a similar problem - I am using Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 and Dell PowerVault 128T. Evertime I try to backup using Veritas it keeps saying (Loading Media) - but then nothing.

Any help in why it is not backing up to the tape drive it would be much apprcaited. I just cannot get it to backup anything ------ fustrating.

Any ideas...

Greetings accesswork123,

I actually just rebooted the server to fix my problem. My problem was a little different than yours - the main reason it kept saying Loading Media was that it was looking for media "4M00067", which we don't even have anymore. And, it won't let you abort until you put that tape in. That was my problem - yours sounds like a media issue, like it can't write to the tape or it is looking for a specific tape, etc.

What happens when it says Loading Media? Does it spit the tape out and go back to saying "Loading Media" again? Or, once you put a tape in, does the loading media message go away, and the job fails?

Usually, whenever I see that, it will tell me in the job log or in the Alerts section why it wouldn't take a tape. Have you tried looking there?

Hope that helps!

If the library you are using has more than one drive and you are using the the duplicate to tape job--

In Device and Media pick the slots/partition/drive you want to backup to
In General set the Preferred Source to All Drives.

I just exeperienced this problem and had to get the answer from support.

Hi - thanks for your reply. I am still getting this problem job staus: loading media and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? - I place a tape into the dell powervault with the staus saying library ready (idle) and load veritas bakup exec 9.1 (see below for the configuration i.e. Device and Media). I do know why its just not loacting the tape in the drive to copy data into.
