A few weeks ago I noticed that I was able to get on the internet without any problems, but all of the sudden I am unable to ping anything locally on my network.

I've checked all kinds of things and nothing has fixed it.

Any Ideas?

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2.

Thanks!

Josh

Please rephrase the question, internet and LAN are two different things.

I can ping Internet. I can ping websites without any problems.

I cannot ping LAN. I can't ping other computers on my network. Other computers can ping each other just fine. Mine is having trouble pinging others.

hmmm... do you have a firewall installed? If so, check the configuration.

Do you have the Windows Firewall enabled?
Can the other machines ping your PC?

I have Windows Firewall turned off.

I don't know of any other firewalls.

Others can ping me but I can't ping them. I have to edit my hosts file to be able to connect to other computers/devices.

what are the ip addresses of both machines? their subnet masks? their default gateway?
do an ipconfig on the c: prompt to see what they are.

maybe your PC's IP is set to 169.*.*.*., try running IPCONFIG as alidabiri suggested, or run IPCONFIG /RENEW.

I have tried this multiple times and the IPCONFIG shows the info for my network.

I have a valid IP of 192.168.0.94 that came from the DHCP server.

if you have multiple instances of dhcp server running, your network will not work.
what are the subnet masks?
what are the default gateways?
click settings, control panel,
double click on network connection
right click and select properties
you should see 4 items checked:
client for microsoft networks
file and printer sharing for microsoft networks
QoS packet scheduler
internet protocol (TCP/IP)
also check in admin tools / services:

these services should be active and automatic:
dhcp client
dns client
network nla (network location awareness)
server
tcp/ip netbios helper

check these and post back.

All of the services you mentioned are running.

When I try to Ping the name of another machine it does not work. It returns a "Ping request could not find host" error.

When I try to ping the IP address it works just fine.

I have tried resetting my TCP/IP stack in the past but it has not changed anything.

you still haven't posted the items i wanted to find out:
ip addresses of machines
subnet masks of machines
default gateways of machines.
let's go from there.

Machine #1 (mine, broken):
IP: 192.168.0.94
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Machine #2 (mine, broken):
IP: 192.168.0.104
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

which one is the server, which one is the client? i mean which one do you connect to internet with so that others can share that connection?
the machine that connects to the server, should have default gateway set to the biggy's ip address.
it should be like this:
Machine #1 (mine, broken): (the biggy) server)
IP: 192.168.0.94
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Machine #2 (mine, broken):
IP: 192.168.0.104
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.94 (ip address of the server).

I don't think so....the gateway should be the same, setting the gateway to the server IP isn't going to help the ping issue.

Machine #1 is the one I am having issues with, sorry for the confusion.

Machine #2 is the one that works fine pinging other systems on the network.

The DHCP/DNS server is 192.168.0.9 with the same subnet and gateway.

Do both machines have dymanic IP addresses?

I would still consider trying another NIC to rule that out as well.

are these the only ones netowrked?
or are there other machines on the lan?
if there are other machines, you're correct. 192.168.0.1 is the gateway.
how many machines are networked?
can you ping these machines from 192.168.0.1 machine?
