Where can I get a list of the abbreviated commands available? (for IOS, 3550 EMI).
Which program (freeware preferenced) do you use to connect to switches by telnet. The one I use seems not the most handy to me.

Best place to get the commands is right on the cisco site . A good terminal emulator is Tera Term which is freeware . Also comes in handy when having to configure cisco equipment.

I agree with vipergg. Tera Term Pro is the best free Telnet/SSH client that I've found. If you want to pay for a client then I'd suggest SecureCRT from Van Dyke. That is a really, really great program but you probably don't need anything more than Tera Term provides.

Thanks!

Teraterm Pro :
You can write macros to handle with some repetitive commands

ZOC is another really good one.

In answer to your first question. Any time your doing any command on a Cisco box, you can type any number of letters in the command followed immediately by a question mark. It will show you the options of commands you have for that series of characters. If there is only one, that is your shortcut.

For example:
if you type co?, you get:
configure connect copy
But if you type conf?, you get
configure

So, you can use conf as your shortcut for configure. Remember the question mark is your friend... ;o)
