AAARRRRGH! IBM LTO2 drive and 2003 Server on IBMx346

I have been having problems with this combo for four months now.

I am running NTBackup (yes, I know, but it is 'free'), and every time I load a tape the Removable Storage Manger says that the tape is write protected when it isn't. As such I can do nothing with any of my tapes and can't run any backups.

Anyone had similar problems/have any suggestions?

Anyone? Please? IBM are telling me that a Windows Update has corrupted the OS. I personally think this is nonsense.

I think there was a problem with NTBACKUP in Windows 2003.
Have you called Microsoft?

I would ditch ntbackup and try something else.

Yeah, we did just that, and installed Veritas BE 10.

As for NTBackup, it may come bundled with the OS, but it sucks.
