Hello,

I come accross a really weird problem with Windows 2000 and I have absolutely no idea about how to correct this. I get a blank desktop everytime I logon to any windows 2000 Pro machine ( Windows NT running machine are fine--I can login, no problem).
Here is what I have done to correct this issue:

1) Tried what has been suggested in this article, but it didn't work
2) Tried uninstalling our domain name from this desktop and joining back the domain, but no luck
3) Deleted all the user profiles from this system but still no luck
4) The system itself is not behind any critical updates/SPs
5) It is not infected with any viruses

I am clueless at this time. This really mind boggling. It use to work until last weak, but all of a sudden it stopped working. Strangly enough this happens only when I am loggin on to the network using any machine running Windows 2000 Pro , but I can logon to local machine using local admin password. I can also log on the network as an administrator and it works or myself since I am part of administrator group. But it will NOT work if I login with any other user.

I am assuming it may have something to do with # of CALs. I may be wrong. Please please I need immediate help. We have a payroll system that has this issue and you can imagine how critical this is!

Thanks....Desparately waiting for your reponse...

Yes we are using active directory on our PDC, but we haven't made any changes to our DNS.

How many Win2k Pro boxes are affected?

It would seem unlikly to be profiles affecting multiple systems unless you use roaming profiles, do you use them?

Any errors in the event log on the 2k stations?

Thanks for your reply. I haven't checked all the desktops here, but we have like 40 Win2k desktops and I have only tested with 3 machines so far. No, we don't do roaming profiles here so it shouldn't affect. I am yet to look at the error logs for the individual desktops. I will look at them and will let you know..

Thanks again..
