In the event viewer (System) I get the following message over and over:

The MSSQLServerOLAPService service terminated unexpectedly. It has done
this 1490 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0
milliseconds: No action.

in the Application log it is listed as follows:

Unexpected fatal error occurred. Attempting to restart server.

What is going on?????

Hello,

We have the same problem than you with some servers that we have intalled with analisys server.

Have you found any solution?

Thank you very much.

I am having the same problem. Did anyone else just apply Win 2k SP 3?

I can't find a thing on Microsoft Support or Technet. Any help would be greatly aprreciated.

Joe

This happens on my box several times a day and I can't find an answer. If anyone finds an solution PLEASE post it.

I was able to fix the problem by applying SQL server SP 2 to all instances of Analysis Services that we have ( we had different SP installed -oops)

i posted this same issue in the following newgroups:

microsoft.public.sqlserver.datawarehouse
microsoft.public.sqlServer.olap
microsoft.public.data.oledb.olap
microsoft.public.sqlserver.programming

and this is the response (thanks Darren)

Check that the version of PTS that is on your client is the same as the
version that is on your server. (do this by checking the version of the
msadomd.dll file which is usually installed in C:\Program Files\Common
Files\System\ado)

I saw behaviour like this at one of my client sites when a web server
with the original release version of PTS was executing certain queries
against certain cubes on an Analysis Services server that had SP2 on it.

Running the PTSFull.exe from SP2 on the web server updated the client
side PTS components on the web server and our Analysis Services server
stopped crashing.
