My Amanda backups have mysteriously started failing last week for some reason... the error I get is

Date: Sat, 14 Aug 2004

These dumps were to tape comp010.
*** A TAPE ERROR OCCURRED: [[writing file: No space left on device]].

... I am new to Amanda and did not set it up but I have been digging around to see what it is all about.

The tapes are 25/65 and 35/91. The backup that it is trying to write is 15GB uncompressed. There is plenty of room because it should overwite each time the tape is reused.

Anyone have any ideas??

I had the same error with amanda.
This message indicate an IPC full table
You can display with ipcs -a
You can remove entries with ipcrm

That error could be generated from the filesystem running out of space, and simply by reported incorrectly. If I remember correctly, Amanda makes a backup on the disk, then writes that off to tape.

Barring that, you might just scan the source code for the error message and see what could be generating it.

Use the Source, Luke... ;-)

Hey thanks for the replies!

I tried ericbrunson's suggestion and reserved more disk space for the backup... It worked. Last nights backup ran!!
