Hi,

I downloaded CMI8738_WDM_0639W2K.zip from for the following souund card under Windows2000:
C3DX
HSP56
CM18738/PCI-SX
HRTF Audio Com
MBE43-037D
0207UGG1EB

When try mp3 or other song, I can only see the moving picture in Media Player but without sound. Do you think anything I did wrong?

Thank you in advance.

Do you get any sound at all? Check sound isn't muted. Check control panel/system/hradware to see if anything has a yellow !

No sound at all under Windows2000 but just fine under Windows98: I got two system in the same PC.
What you mean by "Check control panel/system/hradware to see if anything has a yellow"? What you suggeated me to find under Control Panel/System/Hardware/? What a "yellow" means?

Hardware/Drivers that have issues should be marked with a yellow exclamation mark - sorry if I was too cryptic.

stduc,

Under Control Panel/System/Hardware/ are 3 options....which one you suggested me to look into?

right click 'My Computer'
click 'Properties'
click 'Hardware'
click 'Device Manager'

now you will see a list of all your hardware, check if the
'Sound, video and game controlers' is ok , expand it(if it is not already) and check everything on the list.

(before you think that this is stupid) go
Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices and check if it is muted or something.

if none will help, then try for some other drivers.
if your search will not come handy, then i suggest you get a new sound card ( there are nice sound cards very new, and very chip)

Thank you perluserpengo.

I checked what you suggested and find nothing wrong.
The sound card can play music under Windows98.
I downloaded two sound drivers for that card for Windows2000.
If the card is no good, why it can work under Windows98?
If the card may not work under Windows2000, why there are drivers for that card for Windows2000?

A new sound card? I don't know if my motherboard support what sound card....

There are a lot of drivers out there which do not work as expected. Don't ask why(this happens a lot with microsoft OS's).
If you tryed every driver you found for this sound card and it still doesn't work, then it will never do.
There is also a posibility that your sound card conflicts with some other device only on Win2000 (because every OS has its own way to handle IRQ) and sometimes this is not obvious from the device manager.

What kind of mb do you have?

Also, you have to remember that a lot of these drivers are posted by people, and people can make mistakes. Some people even spread false info around, report that a certain set of drivers is good in win2k when in fact they dont, maybe they were meant for win98. You have to be very skeptical what you get from some of the driver sites. For the most part they are honest and correct. But there are a lot of people out there who get their kicks from messing with people. Look at all the virus, trojans, etc. These are done by these same people!

or maybe the speaker jack is plugged in the wrong port? or the speaker wiring has gone bad, "open" perhaps? or the (actual) speaker volume is set to low? i dunno, just a thought...

hope this helps. peace! [peace]

Thaks to perluserpengo and garebo, you are tell me something I never head!!

Thank you torturedmind.

Strange enough, after I plugged in another hole it works !
That means both the previous hole and the second hole can work under Windows98, but only the second works under Windows2000.

Now, new problem: I cannot record by the recorder comes with Windows2000. Do you have any idea?

Since you had to use a different "hole" try using a different hole for the recorder. You may have to move it around for "sound" and for "recording" but at least it may work.

sometimes the solution, though very simple, is not so obvious.

aren't the holes "color-coded"? i mean, aren't there any blue (for line-in), green (for speakers/headphones), and pink (for mic) "holes"? or maybe etched symbols like ear or speaker or mic near these "holes"? if not then i guess you just go with sir garebo's suggestion and do a trial-by-error process.

let us know if this helped. peace! [peace]

No, I have tried evary hole again and again. The horizontal green line in the recorder keeps peace.

Any hole will do, lol.

Open your volume control window. Most of the time there is a little speaker icon in your task bar. Double click on it and see if the Mic input is muted or if the slider is all the way down.
If the icon is not in the task bar, open Control Panel, then Sound and Audio Devices, then click on Advanced. Again check the Mic input for muted or slider all the way down. Your Mic should be plugged into the Red jack in the sound card.

Hopefully this will get you up and running.
