a refresher..
my first problem then was my clients cant log to my domain, because i have to diff network addrs (one static add of the server and the other my internal network). it was suggested that i have to install another nic or router to this. i was able to install the router dlink di740p but still they cant log. dont know what to do next.... are there settings on rras?

here are my setting again
server settings(static fr the isp)
ip - 202.138.189.147
subnet mask - 255.255.255.248
gateway - 202.138.189.145
dns - 202.138.189.147 (local)

router settings (hope this was correct)
lan ip add - 192.168.10.1
wan - ip 202.138.189.147
wan subnet - 255.255.255.248
wan gateway - 202.138.189.145
dns - 202.138.128.1 & 2

dhcp scope
start - 192.168.10.1
end - 192.168.10.150
subnetmask - 255.255.255.0

i just want to allow my win2k workstation to log to my win2k domain server

what am i missing

One question are you running a DNS server within your 2k domain. If not that is your issue. Rich Cook -- "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning."

ok, just a few things:

Change the IP on your Server to be static: 192.168.10.200

Change the DHCP scope to (192.168.10.2 to 150) The subnet mask you're using internally is correct.

Staticly assign the router's internal IP to be 192.168.10.1

If you have a win2k domain controller, then you also need to run DNS. You haven't shown anything that suggests you're currently doing this. You should assign the external DNS IP's you have listed to be forwarders on the internal DNS server.

All clients are to be configured to use DHCP. Have each clients gateway assigned to be the router's internal IP.

Do those few things and post a response.

greetings! i just reinstalled my win2k server - did not promote to dc. i need to start from scratch. assist pls

heres what happened

router settings
lan ip add (router ip) - 192.168.0.1 (default)
wan - ip 202.138.189.147
wan subnet - 255.255.255.248
wan gateway - 202.138.189.145
dns - 202.138.128.1 & 2

server settings
ip - 192.168.10.200
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 192.168.0.1
dns - 202.168.128.1 & 2

i can now ping the router (192.168.0.1)
i can ping the server (192.168.0.200
but i cant ping my gateway/dns/subnet...
i cant browse the net

some notes i got from the isp (i hope this helps)
ip pool - 202.138.189.144
default gateway - 202.138.189.145
ip modem - 202.138.189.146
subnet - 255.255.255.248
ip scop - 202.138.189.147 - 150

is there some incompatibility with my smartlink ecr8000 with my dlink 704p router (residential gateway)

greetings to all and thanks for all your support

yes, iam in a workgroup now (but i will promote to dc later)
the dhcp is working fine the workstation can log to the workgroup but still the issue remains

i cant browse the net

i can now ping the router (192.168.0.1)
i can ping the server (192.168.0.200
i can ping the wan ip - 202.138.189.147
but i cant ping my wan gateway - 202.138.189.145
i cant ping my dns - 202.138.128.1 & 2

Install DNS, I am not sure if it matters which box it runs on but I put it on the first box I brought up. Until you get DNS correct Active Directory will not function.

thanks for all your help. cant really solve the problem even the isp cant figure it out. anyway, added a nic to have this working. added nat from the rras service and now my clients can connect to the domain thu dhcp.

my concern now is this:
how can i configure the server so that only authorized domain users can surf the the net. and if i log-in in a win2000 machine i can surf the net even if i'm not connecting to the domain

thanks
