Has anyone ever seen the message "A program is trying to access email addresses stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this? If this is unexpected, it may be a virus and you should choose "No""?

It happens everytime you try and create a new email message on one machine only. We have tried running AdAware, and removing everything from the startup.

Anyone come across this before?

Thanks a lot,
Dan

This is a standard error when another application is trying to send an email through microsoft email software.

We have it here but it is through applications that we know about. Have you or the user installed an application that requires email. Virus scan the machine.

I sometimes get this at home when I link my iPAQ. I use the iPAQ for appointments and notes, but never for e-mail. And my machine is regularly scanned and has always come up clean.

Can anyone explain this?

Madawc,

I think I right is saying anything accessing outlook could cause this error. Are you synchronising between your ipaq and your computer using email packets?

This error is just happening on Outlook XP, connected to Exchange server. There are no special addins on the machine. It only happens when you click "new mail". There were no viruses found in the scan. Anymore ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

This is common if you have a PDA that you sync with Outlook. This will happen even if you are not sync'ing email and are only sync'ing contacts, notes, etc. Because they reside in Outlook, this is the message you get. It's a safeguard against viruses using your Outlook to send mail. That's outdated now though because most viruses have their own SMTP server built right in and don't need Outlook.
