Hi people, im preparing to do my A+ O/S exam butjust want to know if anyone who has taken it fount any difficulties with it, is it really hard or am i just getting them pre-exam nerves. I took the core exam about 7 months ago and managed to pass it first time with swetty palms so i need to get the 2nd exam done before they change over.

Any feedback would be great

First, I laugh at you girly-men who can't take the two tests on the same day.

Now, from what I remember the OS exam seemed to have a lot of WinNT questions (either installing it or upgrading to it or upgrading FROM it).

I believe that it is very important to do a complete reinstall of Win98, WinNT and Win2K from an empty hard drive (know how to format and FDISK the drives too). You should also know the main registry keys and there general purpose and the main system files for the different OSs (Command.com, io.sys, win.ini).

The best way to learn this is to know one install inside and out (say Win98). Then, learn the differences when you install Win2K and WinNT.

I don't remember seeing any "What do you have to click and what tabs do you select to get to this screen?" questions but that doesn't mean there won't be any.

I've never used/seen WinNT but I was able to pass with a score of 900 (higher than my core!) just by applying what I know about Win2K (since Win2K and WinNT are similar). I also knew the major differences between WinNT and Win2K.

Good luck.

well i for one get very nervous on tests.Especially ones that hit my pocketbook pass or fail. Money has a very effective way of making me very uncomfortable .

I laught at people who laugh at people :)

Well,
I just got something from your reply Mr Accessdabbler,Please I wish to know more about Win2k.I jave been trouble with that. Thanks a lot

LOL @ accessdabler. I've always thought the same thing but I don't think I would have ever put it quite so bluntly!

I was also surprised at the number of NT4 questions - know NTFS well and how to configure it and you'll be fine.

Accessdabbler: When I took it, I wasn't allowed to take both tests on the same day. I tried, but the testing center wouldn't let me.

1nonly: The OS exam is overall not as difficult as the hardware exam, at least to me anyway. Be prepared for a couple of general "alternate" operating system questions such as how to remove a directory under Linux. Of course the general stuff, eat a good breakfast, don't stay up late the night before, study like you normally do, etc. :p
