A Good book for learning oracle

Can people recommend good books for learning oracle please, preferably one which is readily available in the UK...

I'd go with either the Oracle Press series or the O-Reilly ones, I've used the Oreilly my self, but know people who have the other and lie them too. Both should be available in a big Waterstones, or you could atleast order them from there.

I just got Oracle DBA 101 from Oracle Press. It's for a versions older than 8.1.6 but does give some god tips.

I wish I could say I have found a "complete" reference but I don't think such an animal exists. I even talked to one of the Oracle tech reps who said he has 6 ' of manuals!

The Complete Referance Books by Oracle Press are definitely the ones that you should opt for. They have an excellent and indepth analysis of all the concerned areas and serve as a fantastic guide for the amature..........and serves as a good reference for the experts. If you are aiming at being a DBA and want to know the essentials , the books like Oracle 8 DBA handbook , Oracle 8i Tips and Techniques are of immense help . If you are looking for the scripts used in these books , you can always download it from their site ,or you can mail me , and i will send you the scripts ! anyway , to understand these scripts you will need the books .

I don't know if I would consider it good for an amateur, but having had several years experience with Oracle, I was surprised at how much I have been able to find in the Oracle 8i The Complete Reference. Within a week after I got it, it paid for itself. Terry M. Hoey

Both the Oracle Press and O'Reily ones are good.
Check out amazon.co.uk, which has most of them, plus if you order them before lunchtime, you generally get them in a day !
