Hi all, a couple of probably easy ones for you, I built a pc and am using win98. Everything was working great but now there is know automatic shutdown. You have to shut it down by the power switch on the tower. It used to work fine until recently. Ive looked in the bios but cant seem to find it, any suggestions at all. Also when I used to disconect from the internet a box came up telling me to disconect or stay connected, that box is now gone also, would like it back as it reminds me to stay on or off. Thanks in advance

My automatic powerdown on shutdown broke after I ran WindowsUpdate on 98SE - have you done this recently. It got worse and worse over time and in the end I wiped and reinstalled with Win2K earlier this year - which was the best thing I did to it in the 2 1/2 years I have had this box.

Not sure about the internet auto connection issue though.

Try the following:

Click Start button
Select Run
Type 'msconfig' and click OK
Click 'Advanced' button
Tick 'Disable fast shutdown'
Click 'OK'
Click 'OK'

Strongm - I ran your suggestion on my PC on the advice of somebody else, and instead of powering down it rebooted itself.

Make a shortcut on the desktop and in the target put C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE user, exitwindows

Name it whatever you heart desires!
