a couple (hopefully) quick configuration questions

Ok, so I installed RH7 from an ISO i got from a mirror of the redhat ftp. I just did a default installation because I don't have much Linux experience yet. When I was trying to install my sound card drivers (soundblaster live) I found that /usr/src/linux isn't setup right, but I don't know how to set it up. Another problem is that I have no idea how to install my NIC. I looked in some linux books I've got, and searched deja.com, but I'm not really sure how to do this. The card is the AON-325, an AOpen/Realtek card. If you have any ideas on either of these problems, I'd be glad to hear your response.

Your NIC should have been installed during the instalation, if it did not prompt you for it, it might not be supported, check RH's support page for supported NIC's. If you installed it after instalation, when you rebooted again it sould have been found(use linuxconf to check for installed NIC). Follow this link for kernel info and re-compilation instructions.

Interesting, I was not prompted when I installed 6.1 for a pretty generic 3com
PC lan card. Does that mean that it is not supported to?

When you do the instalation it will ask you if you want to configure your LAN settings, if it does not ask you this, there is a pretty chance that your NIC is not working properly or not supported.

Kumquat, when the system came up, did you have a eth0?? (ifconfig), also is this an ISA or PCI card, most of the time you will have to manualy configure ISA cards.

OK. Got the sound card and LAN card working. I had to disable PnP OS in BIOS. That leaves the modem. I think its a hardware modem. Its ISA, on com3. US Robotics 56k Voice INT PnP. Any pointers on how to install this in linux would be great, since it doesn't seem to have been detected automatically.
