I have a computer that I couldn't print to today from the server. I knew it was on, so I tried to browse to it. It wasn't listed in the domain under my network places. But a search of the network found the computer, in the domain. Clicking the little file folder icon with the crooked arrow takes me to the main domain folder, where the computer is still unlisted. The computer belongs to the Domain Computers group, I have the proper access credientias, and I can access shares on the computer when it is located via search.

I am having another weird problem with my network, in a thread titled: "Network naming error by my predecessor wreaks havoc on my life!" located at:

The printing is working now that I manually browsed to it from the search window.

Does that machine have File and Print Sharing activated? If I remember correctly, only machines with file and print sharing runing are seen when browsing the network. Searching for a machine works differently than browsing.

yes it does have file and printer sharing on, I can access the shares. didn't I mention that?

Yes, you did mention it, sorry about that. What O/S is the problem computer running?

Sorry in advance for the "stock" answer, but if it is XP Pro SP2, any chance it is a firewall issue?

Also, is the Browser service running and is NETBios over TCP/IP enabled?
