I'm begining to do a lot of work for clients dealing with PC maintanance both on my own and for through another company.

What I'd like to know is would it be a good inventment to get A+ certified? I have taken several practice tests and scored above the passing mark, so I wouldn't actually be taking the courses. I'd just write the 2 exams.

Also, what exactaly does this certification give me? just another certificate to hang above my desk or are there other benifits?

thanks
Ben

I think it always a good idea to continue your education and to keep grabbing Certifications when you can. They always look good to have. If you take A+, then that is all you get is a certification.

I've got my A+ certification, and although I've had to explain the principal to some agencies/punters, they've usually looked impressed. I'd recommend it personally - it's an overall base level qualification that goes down well with people jaded with looking at Microsoft standards all the time.

Wow - and we even got a CompTIA drinks holder this year!!

A+ certification is most commonly associated with Hardware. There are many companies that won't allow you to become certified with their products until you are A+ certified first. HP, Compaq, and Toshiba are just a few. If you're mainly interested in software support, I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi.
If you're interested in getting an entry level PC job (desktop support or help desk), this is a good certification to have.

If you're already doing networking, it's useless. ------------
Certified in absolutely nothing :)

There is a CompTia A+ Certification forum on this site, for more information.
