Is there any sites online that offer the new updated 2006 study info? I've been using getcertified.com for study resources, but most of the material is outdated and serves no purpose in studying for the 06 exam. I realize that I can still take the 03' exam, but the class I'm taking is prepping me for the 06' exam anyway, so that's the test I wish to take.

I think you'll find that the content of the exams didn't really change that much. Only the way CompTIA has chosen to package it. All study materials for the 2003 exams are still very much applicable to the 2006 objectives.

I've heard that they've done away with alot of the DMA, IRQ, processor pin count, socket info and so forth. Added much more customer service info. I just don't want to waste my time reviewing material that will be useless when it comes to the test.

Well dawg,
I won't get into a whole spiel about how any knowledge gained is valuable or the one about just learning the minumum to pass a test.

I think you'll find that most customer service knowledge is just common sense and yes, they have taken some arcane technical minutiae out of the exams. The biggest trick you will see is cross-over between the exams. You are very liable to see a good mix of hardware and software on the same exam.

Glister...thanks for the info
I understand what you mean about studying "just to pass the test"
I have worked in the computer/networking feild for 7 years, but have never gotten the cert, but a new project is requiring it. I have a clear understanding of most aspects of hardware, and what I have found so far has been intersting and I've learned alot, from studying the older material. However time is of the essence, and right now I need to focus on the nuts and bolts, and get the exam specifics down packed. I know customer service basically boils down to good manners, and if you're mother taught you correctly. But I just want to know what CompTIA wants to know.

a little background. I've been building my own computers and some for friends and family for about seven years. I go to a college and am majoring in business administration with emphasis in computer information systems. I'm pretty well versed in computers, but by no means one of those guys who spends long periods of the day each day looking at the latest and greatest tech, or the up and coming stuff. I just yesterday had to ask a buddy how I go about removing my second OS from my hard drive and take it out of my MBR. I do work as tech support part time, but really I dont feel any of it translated to the exam.

I studied about a third of the old objectives book about a year and a half ago before putting it down. I got the urge to "just take the test" last week, so I got a practice test program "examforce: crammaster" and took those for a while and figured out the answers I didn't know.

Walked into the test, 900 is the max, 675 to pass, I got an 850. (this is the essentials exam). This was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

I'm going to take the IT technician part on Tuesday. If you want more info or an update on how that one went, you can email me at (put the letters together) "goa lie pride @ hotmail.com

Test was a breeze! I scored an 860 and 875 on to N+ and CCNA since I have caught the cert bug!

Good job!!! Net + should be fairly simple. The CCNA however, you'll definately loose a few hair studying for that one.

Congrats!!

A+, Net +, Security +, MCP, on my way to being an MCSA
