Hi have read Jason Couchmans "OCP Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL Exam Guide" published by osbourne for oracle.

I have done the practice exams and passed ok. i didnt think they were too difficult compared to the demo for self test software.

Basically i find self test software is more in depth that the exams that come with the book.

Which ones are the better practice??

hi

In my opinion, based on personal opinion, selftest r the best prep tool along with the Oracle Student Guides/ILT's.

Good Luck

No book can help you for 100% exam preparation. But Jason Coachman's (Exam IZ0-007) is good to study. It doesn't mean that you are done. It just gives you an introduction to the exam covering topics with examples and tips too. But it's up to you what practice have you done with those topics further. For example datatype conversion function are mentioned in this books. But there are no details of datatype conversion rules.

Read as much as material you can before taking the exam even before a sample test. A single book is not enough to cover the whole SQL but the checklist provided by Oracle for this exam can be covered.

My only suggestion to you that look deeply whatever discussed in Coachman's book. Try to find out the topics in Oracle manuals for further features and syntax, which are not discussed, because there are a dozens of way of using a single function and its results depends on the retrieved dataset.

- Always read more than one book.
- Keep digging the oracle Co. manuals and reference.
- Read more articles and FAQ.
- Exclusively use search engine(i.e., google and altavista).
- Finally, remember that Practice makes perfect.

thanks for reply

i have recently passed 1z0-007 and 1z0-031. currently looking at 1z0-032 (fundameentals II). IN your experience from oca to ocp were the exams slightly harder.

In my preperation for the previous 2 exams i basically read the book twice and bought practice questions which i sten studied explanation and faq. is this enough for remaining questions

Well, it become harder as you go further. But you shouldn't care of the complexity at all, as you are done with the basics and now harder topics are easy to understand for you. You may have experienced a slight difference between 1z0-007 and 1z0-031 that some topics that you have been covered in 1st exam may come with the advance options in the 2nd, like "Password management piques".

Furthermore, this is good to study the book twice. Because when you read a book again you realize that you skipped or haven't paid much attention to some more important topics, and it gives you a revision too.

I would like to state it again that your approach toward Oracle Certification (Prof./Mast) preparation is quit OK. But next two exams are bit harder. Both "Configuration" and "Architecture" are more complex topic. And it is completely different from what you have done in OCA. Unfortunately you can not take advantage of OCA preparation in OCP apart from that you qualify for the OCP. But the good habits you adopted during OCA preparing will take care of the OCP hardness. Like to read book again and again, to push yourself in a crowd of oracle professionals by using FAQ and discussion, to gather test/exam paper etc.

You should give more time to you study and research. And a secret about these two exams is to be practical in terms of client and servers side configuration.

thanks for reply....did you use any self test software if so which would you recommend?

No, I didn't use any selftest software ever. Because of my previous years of experience in Oracle I never felt to use any selftest software, but have red the books instead.

But I know many selftest software that I use to recommend my students. What I've experienced that test software are more hard than a real test. But it is excellent to use it at least for the sake of practice and success.

Try this (1 of best STS)for "SQL Fundamental II" exam.

Thanks for reply.... thats what i found as for fund I i purchased selftest software and founf it to be say 20% harder than the actual exam. I scored in the end up 90% in fundamentals II and 93% in sql. This has given mee confidence, however i think fund II is harder for me personally because it covers alot of the concepts you dont really cover in day to day dba duties, untile fund I
