Hi.

I have a Storagetek 9940 Drive. I just got a new batch of tapes and I am getting this error on some of them.

"load 3954"

I thought it might have been a formatting problem (or "re-conditioned" tapes) so I ran "make data tape" which gave me this error.

"chk A724"

Can someone give me an idea what these errors are about, or point me to a list of error codes? (I do not CURRENTLY have a manual)

Thanks in advance!

Hi Ampage,

Maybe this can help you...

FSC: A724 |BAD MEDIA | *** | *** |
MIM Code: INOPERABLE

FRU: MEDIA CONF: 80%
FRU: MICROCODE CONF: 20%

Field Text:
The Engineering Port Task failed to write a tape mark while doing a
make-data-tape. Try make-data-tape again and if that fails, replace
the tape.

If you have already a make data, it means that you'll have to replace the cartridge.... sorry

Best regards

You might possibly have a bad drive. Make sure the tapes are not file protected. Is this a 9940 A or B?

9940A

It looks like just bad tapes. Only 3 bad out of a couple hundred.

Delivery guy dropped the box or something...

Thanks.
