I have a Windows 98 PC that is connected to a LAN. The LAN includes a Windows NT PC that I wish to access a database from.

User ALANS logs onto the 98 PC and the NT PC's drive is mapped. User ALANS is set up on the NT PC as a Power User and this allows me to see the files on the NT PC.

However, when I attempt to open the database in question I am told that.....

'The database that you are trying to open or convert is currently ni use, or you do not have permission to open it exclusivley.'

But I do not get this this mesage when I open it on an XP PC.

Can anyone help?

Is your lan a peer to peer (i.e. Your Win98 PC connected directly to the NT P.C via Crossover cable)? If you are connecting through a lan that has a server, does your server have any policies set for win98 PC's, or has the Win 98 PC got any local registry editing policies on it?

Just a couple of thoughts..

Cheers
Paul
