I searched several posts and could not come up with a definite answer here so I decided to post my question and hopefully have it stated specifically.

I am running Cm 3.1.5

We have a few hundred 16xx series ip phones and we are trying to install some 96xx series ip phones now as well. My problem is when used at a site where the current option 242 is set up we are seeing the file server reported as 0.0.0.0

Here is the option 242
MCIPADD=172.16.x.xx,172.16.x.xx,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=172.16.x.x,TLSSRVR=172.16.x.x,L2Q=1,L2QVLAN=16,VLANTEST=0

I was curious if having both httpsrvr= and tlssrvr= is part of the problem as the other option 242's posted generally have 1 of them.

Previously we had the S8710 server acting as the file server but ran into some issues and chose to move the files to a seperate server.

I have verified the files in the file server by statically assigning the address and the phones upgrade successfully and dl the 46xx settings file successfully.

These are refurb 96xx phones and we have not done anything but unbox them. Any help as to why the 96 phones cannot see a file server would be appreciated. Thank you all.

Clay

Another thing to note. We have no issues with the 16xx phones. They find the file server fine. To verify I cleared all the settings and let it re-register through DHCP and it worked properly.

Also a seperate question on the 96xx phones.. Can you still use commands such as (mute,v,i,e,w,#) and such? I tried to use it to view the settings and it did nothing.

Try using http port 81 instead of 80. I had a similar issue with these 96xx phones and when we changed the http port to 81 they worked like a charm.

Where exactly would that be programmed into the 242 if you dont mind me asking? Obviously I am not the one who wrote the option and I am a little ignorant in that area.

Upon further reading it appears I add in "HTTPPORT=81" but still not certain where exactly or if it matters.

But since we are using phones that seem to be release 1.5 they will have to upgraded to 2.0 before they will even recognize the command... At least that is what I gathered from
Also if anyone could verify if I should have both HTTPSRVR and TLSSRVR in option 242 I would appreciate that.

Thanks for your help bigart and I will post how it works or not once I try it.

In the actual 46xx or 96xx config file. Open the file and do a search for HTTP. Make sure that you are under the 96xx settings portion of the config file. Also What are you using for the HTTP server. You should set the the HTTP: port on that box as well to 81. The 242 DHCP option should be left as is.

Why on earth would you still be running R1.50? that is ancient. R3.02 is current, and suggested.

Are you talking about the phones Mitch?

Yes, the phone firmware. You should NOT have both HTTP and TLSSRVR, as they are mutualy exclusive.

If you are using a standard web server like Apache or IIS, then use HTTPSRVR=, and stick with port 80, which you pretty much have to with 9600 IP phone FW @ R1.50 or lower

You need to get those IP phones upgraded, get them running R3.02

Yes. That is part of what I am trying to do. I have placed the upgrade files on our httpserver and the phone would connect to the c-lan and let you insert an extension but would not seem to find the http server and get its updates or settings. When I statically assigned the http server, everything went fine it downloaded its updates and got the correct mailbox # from the 46xx settings. It seems as if something must be wrong with the option 242 although, it still works fine for our 16xx phones.

Option #242:

MCIPADDR=x.x.x.x,MCPORT=1719,HTTPSRVR=y.y.y.y,HTTPPORT=80

Make sure your HTTP server is setup to deliver the files using port 80, as this is th ebest way to upgrade R1.X 9600 IP Phones. R1.50 won't even understand the "HTTPPORT=" statement, but put it in anyway, just to remind yuorself.

Also, "clear" the phone out, when you get into the setting, do a "CLEAR" from the menu (MUTE <password> #) Then let the phone reboot, that will clear out any static settings that may be still in the IP Phone, you have to assume they are retaining some settings from their previous use.

Thanks. We finally figured it out. We found some issues with the otpion 242 settings. Wrong range for IP's. We also removed the TLSSRVR= piece. We still had issues with the system not pulling a voice vlan ip but that was resolved by inserting an IPhelper address into the layer 3 switch I believe. (We were talking to the DHCP but for some reason just could not pull a vlan 16 IP address.)

Everything is resolved though and running smoothly. Thanks for your help Mitch and yours as well Bigart.
