Is there a way to change the VPN settings on a 9650 phone without having to clear the phone each time and then upload a new 46xxsettings.txt file?

Yes you can.
Press mute craft or mute VPN and disable the VPN option.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

But I want to be able to change the options within the settings, and even if I *craft the phone, it does not allow me to change any of the settings. I can only view the settings.

Very silly question, but the 9650C phone has the VPN client built in right, I dont need to upload other software for this to work?

You do not need to put any software on it but you need to enable it on the phone by using the 46xxsettings.txt

You could put the phone in a different group and adjust the file so only that group will enable the vpn software.
Once it is enabled you can turn it on and off on the phone itself.

Ok so I am being blonde here. Firstly I have never used "Groups" to differentiate handsets and no matter what I have tried, the VPN settings on the phone are always locked down.

Is there a VPN Phone setup for dummies / idiots guide somewhere that relates to the 96 series handsets?

Sorry to sound so deparate, but what the heck I am!!!

In a moment i have an example for you.

Ok here it is:

Open the existing 46xxsettings.txt and add this on top of the already excisting text:

IF $GROUP SEQ 0 GOTO NO96XXVPN

IF $GROUP SEQ 876 GOTO 96XXVPN

# 96XXVPN

GET 96xxvpn.txt

# NO96XXVPN

## SET NVVPNMODE 0

## SET PROCSTAT 0

Build a new text file called 46xxvpn.txt
Put this in the text file:

SET NVVPNMODE 1
SET PROCSTAT 0
SET VPNPROC 2

# END

Put this file on the same fileserver as where the 46xxsettings.txt file is.

Then get a phone that needs to be a vpn phone.
Go in to the craft menu and set a group.
Default the group is set to 0
Set it to 876(VPN) and exit.
The phone will reboot and pulls both files.
Then when it is done then press mute craft or mute vpn and turn the vpn option on.
Now you only need to configure the settings.

Most settings can be done by the text file too but first play with this.
If you need to know any more settings for the vpn phone then let me know.

I would love to have one.

@ BrightTech

I´m waiting with u Mr.

@ tlpeter

Thanks.

But what if I don´t want to use groups ?

Where I can find this ? on support site or knowledge base ?

Not a dummies doc but there is a doc.

IF you follow the manuals that is made for the 56/46 series and the router mentioned then you will be alright.
The only difference between the 46/56 series and the 9600 series is the protected net/ virtual ip.
The protected net is the iprange where the pbx is in (192.168.42.0/24)

Here can you find the doc:

Type this number in the search field in the center of the screen:

16-602968

Hello question have you guys configure 9600/30 phone with netgear fvs_338?
I tried and when is exchanging key it say invalid configuration I have other phones connected as a VPN 5621 and 4620sw and they work fine
Thanks

Yes I have done that but then with a 336 which is the replacement for the 338.
I followed the manual and used mode config.

I went through what was discussed here, there were one or two other tweaks required to connect to the Juniper, but eventually got the tunnel created. I now sit in the situation where I have a tunnel, the phone asks for an extension number, the hangs saying "Discovering 192.168.2.82".
We see absolutely no traffic on the Juniper, nor on the monitor from the phone.
Any ideas????

Iproute on the ipo to the mode config iprange ?

The IP Route existed already, the manager can ping the Juniper internal address, but not the IP Address of the phone. If I connect to the VPN with a PC client I can ping the IPO.
Do you think the Juniper is blocking the registration request? Does not make sense though because we see no IP traffic what so ever on the Juniper, it is almost like the phone connects, but then does nothing other than putting "Discovering 192.168.2.82" on the screen.

What did you enter on the protected net ?
