9641 GS phones losing their autodial programming

We’re just starting to roll out a handful of Avaya phones in our Nortel environment, Aura 6.3. On a 9641 GS, there are only a couple users who have self-programmed autodial keys by way of the Abr Program button for the number, and the Personalize Labels setting for the label name.

I’m just starting to test this and gather data, but the phones sometimes lose the self-programmed label and number, reverting to whatever what was originally built in SMGR for the button (i.e. blank autodial). It doesn’t happen on a phone reboot, and it doesn’t necessarily happen overnight after midnight routines. I can’t tell yet exactly what triggers it.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Have you configured the phones to backup the labels on an http/https server?

Thank you gwebster. I'm new to CM, so I don't know the procedure to back up the labels. I do have an HTTP server configured for the phone. That's where it gets its 46xxsettings file, right?

Look in the "Administering Avaya 9608/9608G/9611G/9621G/9641G/9641GS IP Deskphones H.323" document under "Administering Backup and Restore".

Yeah, looks like its set up correctly. A couple folks at the IAUG.org forums are saying they’ve seen similar. Sometimes as many as several hundred stations, and it’s specifically the user-customized button labels. Sometimes they can fix by restoring the backup file from the phone, sometimes by just changing one other button. Next time it happens I’ll try to restore from the phone.

Sounds like this is a bug rather than a feature or setting that I have failed to turn on.

SIP or H.323 phones? Make sure you're chasing the right rabbit. Autodial numbers and button labels for SIP phones are stored on SMGR. You may want to look at data replication between SM and SMGR.

There were issues with phone labels not getting correctly configured into CM but I haven't seen this in awhile. If you have specific phones that have this issue verify the display button labels in CM matches the phone and the phone is actually being backed up to the WebDAV server. May be a re-introduction of a bug in a newer software release. Also what version of 6.3 are you running? 6.3.2, 6.3.11, or 6.3.111 for example. Makes a big difference.

Forgot...

If you have TTI turned on verify it is complete (status tti). If not then disable it in System Parameter Features, wait till it completes, then re-enable it and verify it completes. Can cause some of these strange station issues.

Thank you Jimbo. Phone is backed up to Utility/HTTP Server (as far as I can tell). CM version is 6.3.141. TTI is complete.

Last few days, no issue. Thank you again for your feedback.
