Came in this morning and one of our warehouse phones was stuck on No Ethernet * to program. I did a craft clear with no luck. Even stuck it on a new system waiting to be installed and it does the same thing. Replaced the phone with a spare and it works fine. Dead phone? if so how long are standard IP phone warranties?

The ethernet ports on the back are not very solid.
When you use cables that are not flexible and you move the phone around a lot then the port will break.
This results in the No ethernet.
Do not use patch leads with a solid core is the solution.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Every time I have seen this on the phones, it was the patch lead or mostly the actual cable outlet.

Tried it on a brand new system I'm setting up for a customer using an injector connected directly to the LAN2 port of the IP office. Same result. If it weren't still under warranty I'd fiddle with it and try making it work but a flaky connection is unacceptable so it's going back.

Also, this phone wasn't moved around much at all. It's a stationary (and seldom used) phone in a warehouse area and yes, stranded copper cat5 was used.

A stranded cable is the same as putting a stick in to the port.
A slight movement will already put big forces on the port.
These type of phones should never ever use a stranded cable!

Sure you don't mean solid core cable there, Peter [smile]

Kind regards
