we have a market that just received a new CM6 S8300d/G450 gateway and 9611 phones. about 5 phones there, on occassion, will get a call, usually a station to station call, and when they go to pick up the call, the phone keeps ringing... no button the phone works...it just is completely locked up. Rebooting the phone seems to fix it. I have seen this once on my phone a long time ago, but it never happened again. However, this new market, it seems to happen all the time. Any ideas?

Try upgrading the phone to the latest firmware load if you haven't already.

I saw a thread about SP5 and the 9611 firmware. the Avaya site, when I go to click on that download, showes me no files.. what do I need to do to obtain that?

it seems IE9 does not display the download tab... if I switch to compatibility mode I see it or if I use Safari. I am good to go on the firmware, we will deploy and test to a few phones. Thank you all!

Update to the latest firmware or ... turn off the screensaver/back light timer. The latest firmware is supposed to have a fix for this issue.

This happens when the phone is in screensaver mode and gets a call. There's a bug with the screensaver that cause the continuous ring when a call comes in while the screensaver is active.

Where do you turn off the Screen Saver/background light? is that in the settings file?

Yes it is.

Set the following section

Code:
############### DISPLAY BACKLIGHT CONTROL ################
##
## Idle Time Before Turning Off Backlight (minutes)
## Number of minutes without phone activity to wait
## before turning off backlight. A value of 0 means the
## backlight is never turned off. This parameter is
## supported only by phones which have a backlight.
## The default is 120 minutes.
##   Gray-scale phones do not completely turn backlight off;
## it is set to the lowest non-off level
## Valid values are in the range 0-999.
SET BAKLIGHTOFF 0
##
##

and the following:

Code:
################ AVAYA SCREEN SAVER SETTINGS ###################
##
## Idle time before the Avaya Screen Saver is activated (minutes).
## Number of minutes without phone activity to wait
## before the screen saver is activated. A value of 0 means
## the screen saver is never activated. The default is 240 minutes.
## This parameter does not apply to 16cc SIP phones.
##
## Note:
## This setting activates the Avaya Screen Saver which is
## different than the "idle screen" accessed by WMLIDLEURI.
## While it is possible to use WMLIDLEURI as an "idle
## screen", it is recommended that the SCREENSAVERON
## timer and the Avaya Screen Saver display be used for
## screen saver purposes.
## The available range is 0-999.
##
SET SCREENSAVERON 0
##
## The filename of a valid JPEG customized screen saver image.
## 0-32 ASCII characters.
## Note: This parameter is supported on H.323 and Its not been
## supported for SIP 96XX Releases of telephones
##
## SET SCREENSAVER filename

The back-light has setting hasn't been proven to help in our environment but that was a recommendation by Avaya.

The screensaver setting however has show to help with the ring issue.
