System has analog lines (i know, i know) and has echo at the beginning of and incoming call, and randomly through the course of the call. I have also had the echo on outgoing calls during testing although the client did mention it.

Client was v10 and my demo is sitting at 9.1.8, so I tried the phones on my demo, same echo. Have a friend who's system is sitting at 9.1.2.0.91 and has no echo with same phones and analog lines. I have IPOSS on the v10 so I can report it but its such a hassle.

I normally wont do ip sets with analog line but had a remote building I needed a set at that had no copper connection.

I am planning on rolling back my demo to 9.1.2 to see what happens on it. I just so happens that both releases with echo are on the same release cycle and have the park issue also. So maybe its just the current versions. I am going to fire up a test sip line to the demo and see if it echos also.

Has anyone else had this issue?

1st go directly to the main d-marc and test from there, if no echo then go into the settings on the ip phone and turn off auto gain control and retest

Sorry I didn't include the basic stuff I already tried. The d-marc has no echo, digital sets dont echo, agc has been turned off. Codecs have been changed to g.711Ulaw, it does not matter what codec is used it echos.

Thanks

IP sets and analog trunks don't always play well together.

I know it happens but they did work on previous releases, just trying to see if it is wide spread. I base my parts and install strategy around my past experiences and I only do analog and IP if I have too. It makes me laugh because my 12 year old bcm400 in my office can do IP sets with no issue all day long.

The software side of Avaya is really disappointing, changing park behavior in minor releases for instance, and things like this echo. It doesn't echo on 9.1.2, so why on 9.1 8. If I had a working solution on 9.1.2 and had to upgrade to 10 for some reason and then didn't have a working solution that's unexceptionable to me.

We are going to be doing hosted on our Metaswitch this spring so we just have to keep these IPO's running for a little while longer, its just frustrating.

Sorry to rant, I just have enough on my plate without having to chase down problems that should not exist.

I have personally found both 9.1.7 and 9.1.8 to be unacceptable releases and still use 9.1.6. I am not sure if 9.1.6 would help you in this situation but I have yet to encounter that issue.

I am going to downgrade in the next few minutes to test. I will post back with the results.

Have you connected your friends system on the same trunks?
Or tried your system on your friends trunks?

I got busy yesterday and was not able to test yesterday.

This morning I have downgraded my demo system to 9.1.6 and the echo is gone. So it is related to software build. 9.1.8 and 10.x.x are experiencing echo on analog trunks with IP sets. The older builds that also don't have the park issue are NOT having the echo on analog lines with IP sets. It makes sense to me that 9.1.8 and 10.x.x are having the same issue because they are from the same build cycle.

Bringing my demo to my friends business is not feasible, he is running a business with high call volume. Maybe I could try it over the week end when he is closed. Now that I have my test results above I don't really see the point though.

His analog trunks originate from my CO on the same equipment as my test trunks, so its really pretty close in comparison. I could steal his trunks off the main frame and send them to my office and I would't have to drag the system over to his place. Although loop length would change.

thanks for testing and telling us.

Thanks Westi.

I am going to report this though IPOSS today. We will see what happens.

You'll be asked for all sorts of irrelevant information and traces, then they'll suggest some tests that can't possibly make a difference :)

Case 3 on this link has fixed my echo problems with analog lines and ip sets before. I had to fiddle with both the echo reduction and echo cancellation. Seems counter intuitive to turn off echo reduction, when experiencing echo, but it worked in my case with the dreaded IP sets and copper analog lines combination.

qtelcom,

Thanks for this info. I am in the field today but will try the fix from your link. My demo has a v1 combo but I can change that pretty quickly.

Will report back with my findings.
