9608 random reboots

Hello Techs!

I've got a customer with an IP Office 500v2 running 8.1 and we're having and issue with a rebooting 9608 phone. There are 5 IP phones and 4 digital. All other phones are working fine. The IP phones are 1603Ls and 9608s. It doesn't seem to be rebooting after a certain time, just randomly from what I can tell. I've changed the ports the phone is in and tried a different POE injector. Also cleared the phone to factory defaults and re-registered. It used to work fine and hasn't since a power outage, so there is a chance it's physically damaged, but I'm hoping there will be some other ideas to try first.

Not sure what all other information you might need, but I'll get it if asked. Here is a monitor log that has a reboot or two in it for extension 304. You can see the phone unregister and re-register.

FWIW, I noticed you are running 6.2.2 software on the 9608. There have been a few up-issues after that.

Ok. I've never had to update the software/firmware on a phone except for the initial install when it does it automatically. I am trying to test on a 9620 phone here at the office first before I try pushing it out to the customer. I found an updated bin file (was running ha9xxua3_1_04_S.bin and I found one for ha96xx3_2_1_2A). I dropped it onto the SD card from the file management utility in manager. The system is set to the Memory Card as the phone file server type. How do I force the phone to pick up the new file now or am I way off track. We aren't using a TFTP or HTTP server. I could probably set one up, but if I can do it straight from the card, that would be better.

Oh, found it. Needed to put a 96xxupgrade.txt file on the card, too. I found one and changed the file names to the new version and it seemed to work when I rebooted the phone.

I guess my next question would be, can anyone tell me where to download the most updated .bin file for the 9608 without having to download the whole manager software and also where I can get an update.txt file for it since the one I have only seems to apply to 9610, 9620, 9630, 9630G, 9640, 9640G, and 9650?

I was looking through docs, but I haven't found the right one yet. As for training, I was supposed to go earlier this month, but it was cancelled due to lack of entrants. Hopefully soon, though. Until then, I'm learning as fast as I can reading and googling and asking the people here who know and can help point a guy in the right direction.

That's what I'm banging my head against. I have found this:

It says IP Office and Avaya Aura, but in the release notes at the bottom, it only says Aura.

Did not look into the links. But you can use 6.4014 for these phones. It is delivered with IPO 9.1 and you can download it from

http://support.avaya.com

96x1Hupgrade.txt is the file you are looking for.

Is the switch an HP switch by chance? I see your running 8.1(57) some alpha version? I remember some Avaya IP phones rebooting randomly and a service pack eventually fixed that issue with HP switches. It was in 8.1 somewhere (can't remember, but my customer had a terrible time with 1608's and HP switches, until Avaya patched it in a later 8.1 release)

Hmmm. I may have to look into the switch possibly. Yesterday I swapped out the phone with a spare 9640 we have and brought the 9608 back to the office to work on the firmware upgrade. Since I've had it here, it hasn't rebooted at all and I haven't done the upgrade yet. The phone I swapped it with also hasn't rebooted at the customer site. When I take it back, I'll have a look and see if it is an HP switch. Wonder why the other 9608 they have there isn't having any problems though.
