We just installed an IPO with all 9608 sets on it a few months ago in June. 2 problems.

1. We can't seem to get DHCP to work on customers network or on a basic router? (Static address phones instead)

2. I've heard people have been able to make the VPN in the phone work? If this is so, could you possibly share you set up?

Thanks!!

1) the phones will only get an ip address with option 242.
So a basic router will not be able to do this.

2) you need to edit the 46xxsettings.txt file.
Do some searching in the faq and you will find it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

1. Have you defined option 242 in the DHCP scope with the appropriate options for the 96XX phones?

2. I don't believe VPN works properly in the 9608 phones as of yet. I've used 9620's successfully with VPN.

1. Thanks. So the phone can work on a home router DHCP if someone takes it home as long as this parameter is set?
(This is what confuses me. What is the option 242? Where is this added? In the DHCP server or in the system files?)

2. I've looked and didn't see for 9608. Only someone who was having an issue with theirs.

The different DHCP options would be added on the device handling DHCP. Most home routers can't handle extended DHCP options, unless you've put different firmware on them such as DDWRT firmware. Do a search for the manual for the device you're using and see if it supports extra DHCP options. Option 242 passes the IP info of the IP Office and TFTP/HTTP server to the phone so it knows how to find it on the network.

When you use it as a vpn phone then you do not need option 242.

Every 9600 phone use the same way to rnable VPN.

Although Avaua keeps saying that VPN on the 9608 is not supported.

I never tried VPN on 9608s assuming that Avaya was correct in their statement. Sounds like you've had success using them for VPN Peter?

And you installed this???? Hmmmmm

Look on the knowledgebase for alternate DHCP setup.
