Hi!

I've read at some places here that the VPN option doesn't work for the 9608 IP Phone. I've read at some other places that the VPN option actually works for that phone model. I can't find a definite documentation from Avaya about it. All the official guides I find for this are regarding the broad 96xx series.

Can we operate the 9608 phone via the integrated VPN software or not?

If yes, can someone link me a guide for doing this?

Thank you!

They could not get it to work properly on the new 96 series, so they have actually taken the VPN firmware out of the phones when used on IP Office, so no you can't really use them :)

In earlier firmwares the settings were there but they either didn't work well, didn't work consistantly or didn't work at all. That's why they never officially supported it and the reason they later removed it altogether :)

Thank you! I don't know how many hours I would have put in this to find a way to make it works. I kind of got a cue when I upgraded the phone's firmware and the VPN options just vanished.
Guess that we'll wait for a fix in a future firmware release, if there's one. In the meantime, we'll tell the customer to use a good old site-to-site VPN if he wants to keep his 9608 models.

That's usually the best way anyway tbh, it can be remotely configured and less overhead should they want multiple handsets in future, also the less demand you put on those handsets the better, Avaya's latest attempts at handset models is hardly the best :)
