Not in the office today so have no phones to play with. On the 9608 phones is it possible to have a ringtone that allows differentiation between internal and external calls.

I will assume it definitely doesn't work with the modern ringtones, but do the classic ones give the alternate cadence differentiation still?

Beg to differ

9608 IP phones don't allow this.

Only works on 1408, 1416, 9508.

Disagree with both. The 9600 models do support different ringing for different call types* - but not the 96x1 models (which oddly include the 9608).

See
* It is different, but only just, and I'm certainly to old to ever register the difference.

I've always been puzzled by how inflexible ringer control has been with Avaya phones - but I suspect in the business world the drivers have been the bosses at the top saying "if your phone rings just answer it" and the techs at the bottom muttering " for god's sake stop them continuously fiddling with the ringers".

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

I know the classic tone on the 14xx range you can have the same ring pattern which is
1 long tone for internal and 2 short tones for external.

I never noticed that working on the 96xx phones.

Must give that a try.

Internal call - one looooong ring.
External call - one short ring, one short silence, one long ring

Related/not related - not documented but from conversation about phone ringing yesterday, apparently in R11.0 they made the Ring Tone Override options work with the new J169/J179 phones. Will try to test when I get the chance but very nice if they have (since it would mean you as system admin retain the control rather than everyone plunging the office into ring tone hell).

Hi Sizbut

I can confirm that the ring tone override does work with the J169 which is good.
